Photos of Cast and Locations

Cast

For my band members in my music video, i asked them to wear black skinny jeans as this is what the majority of artists wear for the genre. I also said to them they can wear band t-shirts, named clothing DropDead like the picture above, and big shoes. The majority of my band members have medium length hair so i asked them to just mess it up.

This is the lead singer out of Bring Me The Horizon, this is the type of clothing i want some of my band members to wear as its known by the people who are into the rock genre.

This is the drummer in my band, because a lot of my shots include the whole of my band there will not be many close ups of him.

A lot of band members tend to wear band vests on stage because it can get quite warm in venues so one of my members will be wearing a vest.

Locations

Shot 1. Phonebox

Shot 2. Phonebox

In this shot of the phonebox, originally i wanted an old telephone box that was white,  but i tried shooting through the windows, but the windows had condensation on them. Although i would of liked the look of an old phone box, this shot worked quite well as its just a more modern version and i shot whilst someone was holding the door.

Shot 3. Forest

Shot 4. Forest

Shot 5. Forest

In these shots were there are a lot of trees, i thought this would be a good area for were to do the car shot because it looks like a private area and the couple in the car were having a personal moment(argument)

Shot 6. Humber

Shot 7. Humber

Shot 8. Humber
For this shot this is the exact shot i pictured that i would like to bei n my music video, as the son is shining on the river and you can see most of the humber bridge. In the shot there will be two people stood together holding hands in the middle.

Audience statistics for chosen song

This band 'A Day To Remember' are more popular in the USA and between the ages of 13 - 17 who are male.

Storyboard

Identify the conventions of your chosen genre, illustrate with examples

My chosen genre for my music video is rock, there are many different sub genres for rock which is divided into a more specific category, and the particular genre my music song is, is popcore/metalcore. The reason that this band are a mix of sub genres is because they have a variety of different songs, so it is hard to put them into a certain category.

One of the main conventions of a rock video is that they tend to have both narrative and performance.  The narrative tends to show a romance between the lead singer and a girl, or action based. Whereas the performance tends to be just the band with an audience performing to them, either at a concert or in a room or either just themselves are playing to the camera.

Through seeing a lot of rock music videos I have noticed that the setting were bands play are, maybe performing at a gig, or maybe a small room. It is quite rare that bands play outside, although the song ‘Karma’ by ‘Parkway Drive’ is filmed on a beach in Australia.  An example of a band playing to a lot of people at a concert is the song ‘Anthem’ by ‘Bring Me The Horizon’. Also they could be filmed on just a stage, or a recording studio.

Bands may use transport throughout their video for example if the video shows that the band are going back to school, they may use a school bus, for example the song ‘Situations’ by ‘Escape The Fate’. Also tour buses or band vans may be used.
As Rock bands play their instruments it is vital to have performance in their video, this then shows us the main props such as guitar, bass, drums etc. Other props that are used are microphones, speakers, amps, alchohol, cigarettes, posters, or any other instruments.

Rock bands tend to have themselves featured in their video, because this then advertises themselves to the audience.  Other main characters are at least to have one girl they can focus on throughout the video. Certain bands also like to feature other famous bands/artists like in the song ‘Dammed If I Do Ya’ by ‘All Time Low’ feature ‘Tom Delonge’ from ‘Blink 182’. Also the song ‘All I Want’ which is the song I have chosen, by ‘A Day To Remember’ features many different bands from the same genre throughout the music video. `

There are many themes that bands may use for their video such as teen angst, rebellion, romance, bullying etc. For example the band ‘From First To Last’ has an album called ‘Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has A Body Count’. The theme I have chosen for my music video is romance, as a girl and a boy will be featured as well as the band.

Fashion that rock bands tend to look like are that they have a long, scruffy hair style, they wear band t-shirts, shirts, hoodies, skinny jeans, vests, converse, skater shoes or trainers. Quite a lot of bands wear black to show

There are different camera angles that can be used in a rock music video, these include close up’s of the singer, longshots of the whole band, close up’s of instruments, and also wide shots of the whole band.

Describe how you developed your skills in the use of digital technology for media production and evaluate how these skills contributed to your creative decision making. Refer to a range of examples in your answer to show how these skills developed over time

To produce my music magazine in AS, I used a range of digital technology to help me make it.  At first I had no idea how to use the technology that was used on the laptops but the ancillary task helped me to learn a lot and progressed whilst producing my coursework.

The first piece I had to produce was an advert for perfume, and because it was my first time using some of the technology such as Photoshop it didn’t go very well. I got my ideas from TV adverts and advertisements in magazines which helped me to come up with a creative idea. The ancillary task was a college magazine, this also did not go well as I still wasn’t used to the tools in Photoshop, but it gave me time to experiment to get ready for the real coursework.

Through my first year doing media, I attended a lot of gigs, which then I took my camera to take photos of the artists, I was not using photography skill because I was taking the photos not accurately but some of the photos did look really good, so I was able to use them within my magazine.  Because I took a lot of photos, on the contents page I was able to make up page names because the photos I took gave me ideas. When taking the photo of my model who was appearing in my magazine, this increased my photo skills because I had to decide what shots I needed and were to take the photos.

When planning my research I looked at various different magazines on the internet and looked at a few proper ones. The magazines that gave me ideas to create mine were Kerrang and AP. Because I had access to these I was able to create a magazine that suited my genre.  Before this coursework, I already had known how to use the internet for years, but I was searching for different things this time so, I had to search a lot until I found the right information I was looking for.

Secondly I had to learn how to use Photoshop, because this was the main program I made my magazine on. I didn’t understand really how to use it at first, but our first practice task we had to do, helped me have experience with it before I started to make the real product, so it would not slow me down. I had to decide what font text I wanted to use¸ which was hard because I kept wanting to change it, and because I had access to the internet on a laptop I was able to use sites that gave me a various choice in different fonts. Deciding what the house style was going to be like was also quite difficult, but as I progressed using Photoshop it became easier. If I hadn’t of used Photoshop I wouldn’t have been able to have the house style design I had.  Before putting some work onto Photoshop, sometimes I had to use Paint which made it easier.  The main image on my front cover had to be Photoshopped because if not it would have made my magazine look quite tacky. This program also made it easier to change things I didn’t like on my coursework, because I did a lot of moving things around.

Whilst producing my coursework, I had to use blogger to make a blog¸ so I could post all my work in stages. At first I didn’t post a lot but then I got used to the idea that I had too, and carried on.  Blogger helped me so I could keep track on what stage I was up to and to keep my work organized.  This was a big help also because I could access this on any computer anywhere I was like at home, which I could keep up with my work and not get behind on it.

Whilst making this coursework, most of my time was spent on either a laptop or a computer, this is a major benefit because it meant I could get my work done a lot quicker, such as planning, and information was easier to find on the internet.
